Ignas Kazakevičius. "Cyprus. White day 04/12/2023", 2023, acrylic, mixed media, 70 x 100 cm.
I have been painting for over 20 years. I noticed that "landscape compositions" fell into an independent long-term cycle. In them you will always find hints to the horizon. The horizon in my painting is an attempt to look at one's life, thoughts and feelings of others from a distance.
The horizon in the picture is explained very simply. Its visible or even sensed line divides the work into, in philosophical terms, the knowable and the unknowable world. It's kind of an archetype. For example, the Germanic-Scandinavian myths tell about Utgard, or the outer, closed distant land of the gods, the transcendental world, and the earthly, material one called Midgard, where people live.
My works are the mood of a day or a story about that place, thoughts were born at that time, and exactly in the place where they needed to appear. According to Arvydas Šliogeris, the most famous Lithuanian philosopher, it is philotopia or unconditional love for the place where you are. Shlioger calls that place the area beyond the horizon.
Each work has an accompanying letter - a story, like a certificate of specific place and time coordinates.
