Sofija Gideikaitė, "Pilka linija", 60x50 cm, canvas, textile, author's technique, 2021

I recreate textile - industrial products with original techniques, I "became" a textile. I aim to get the impression of painting, I layer and melt fabrics of different structures and shades. Contemporary painting is very diverse. We usually perceive it as a canvas covered with brightly colored strokes, colored areas or textures. I value lightness, softness, transparency, minimalism more than the material weight and expression of the stroke. In these experiments, I am talking about the concept, concept and concept of "beauty". About the variation of the concept of beauty and its different perception both in different eras and in our everyday interiors.

The author about her work:

I came of age at the turn of the century, which was marked not only by political, but also by significant technological changes. Undoubtedly, they also touched the world of art. It is not technological or social changes that are important in human evolution, but changes in time as a concept, in the value of time. We have to try again to understand the idea, the concept, the nature of time. A work of art is also a unit of measurement of time, having a beginning and an end, its own place and time. I need art to help define the value of time in all of our lives. I often ask myself - what is the value of time today, what was it yesterday, twenty years ago, what was it, let's say, in the 19th century. or in the baroque era? That's why I don't divide my work into conceptual and pictorial, exploratory or any other. For me, the fashion of contemporary art is inseparable from the history of art, the artist's abilities, basic knowledge, technological preparation, and the interpretation of the general cultural field.

The field of my creative research is cooperation between the viewer and the artist, methods of cultural presentation. In contemporary art projects, I often turn the function of public administration, logistics, or any official procedure or standard into a work. In installation type works, I always use modern textiles, I interpret its continuity, softness, transparency, the feeling of free fabric falling and rain, using light and textures I aestheticize the interaction of viewers at art events.

Parallel to my artistic activities, I also conduct scientific research, the result of which is a series of representative flags of military units of the Republic of Lithuania. The biggest achievement was in 2009. restored flag of the royal Lithuanian-Polish ruler Augustus II (Strong), which is kept in the Vytautas Great War Museum, Kaunas, Lithuania.
